    About the brand

Ahoy Hoy! We are Christoph, Sebastian and Wanja, three friends from Hamburg and the founders of HYDROPHIL, your brand for innovative sustainable hygiene products.

At this point we want to tell you a little about how and why we founded HYDROPHIL and how our water-neutral, vegan & fair products were created. The idea for HYDROPHIL was born during a bicycle tour through Hamburg and from our blog about water. But one after the other...

In the middle of 2012 we started our little blog on hydrophil.com, which is still dedicated to the various facets of water today. Why water? Besides the air we breathe, water is the most important resource for plants, animals and humans. Without water there would be no life! In our blog we therefore deal with the most diverse aspects around it: sustainable use of water, conflicts over the resource water, tap water... and so on and so forth.

On a late summer day in 2013, we once again touched on the subject of water scarcity on the above-mentioned bicycle tour through Hamburg. No rarity, as our friendship has arisen through our joint commitment to the aid organisation Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli e.V. Thus, a discussion developed around the question whether it would be possible to produce products which are not only fair traded, sustainable and vegan, but which are also produced water neutral in view of the increasing problems around our favourite topic.

Since we have been dealing with the fascinating topic of water all the time anyway and wrote about it in our blog, we wanted to start a field trial and try to develop a product that consumes and pollutes as little water as possible in its production.

This became an idea and the idea became our current brand HYDROPHIL. After we had launched our first T-shirt in a trial run in September 2013 (which can still be ordered by the way here, the feedback was so incredibly positive that we decided to redesign the shirt.

A lot has happened since then. Our range of water neutral, vegan & fair products has grown steadily and now we can proudly say that we are the market leader in sustainable dental hygiene with bamboo toothbrushes. We are very much looking forward to working together to make tomorrow's world even more beautiful and greener.

    Mission

A look at our globe suggests that water is an infinite commodity: At least two thirds of our earth are covered with water. However, only 3% of this is fresh water and therefore drinkable. The resource water is therefore very limited. The consequences of this scarcity of resources are as fatal as they are unbelievable: 2.1 billion of our fellow human beings worldwide have no access to clean drinking water. Facts like these prompted us to pay special attention to the issue of water scarcity.

HYDROPHIL creates innovative and sustainable hygiene products. Products that should serve to broaden the view for topics such as sustainability and scarcity of resources. We want to achieve beautiful things with beautiful things. Our common vision: the production of a sustainable full range for the bathroom - water-neutral, vegan & fair.

This means: Whenever possible we use resources which don't endanger ground or drinking water and don't require artificial irrigation. In this way we can significantly reduce water consumption and make people aware of it. In order to have a positive influence on our world, our products neither contain animal products nor are they tested on animals. We also believe that fair work deserves a fair reward. We keep a personal eye on our value chain down to the smallest detail and ensure that our products are produced fairly. Our mission: We want to sensitize you to sustainable consumption in your everyday life with our products.

In addition to our HYDROPHIL articles from the W.A.S.H. segment (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), we are always working on new products that meet our high standards. True to our motto: Do a little bit better every day.

By the way: We donate 10% of our profits to the non-profit association Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli e.V., which is committed to providing access to clean drinking water for people in countries of the global South.
