Tencel knit weave uppers, linings, laces, lace tips, padding, tape and stitching derived from sustainably grown wood sources (FSC), harvested from certified and controlled sources. Certified as compostable and biodegradable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions, they can fully revert back to nature. Compliant with Din Certco, Vincotte and US BPI compostability standards.

Apinat outsoles. Compliant with biodegradability standards EN 13432/EN 14995 and US ASTM D6400.

Compressed cardboard toe puffs, counter and insole board (FSC)

Our LDN Sneakers have been over a year in the making, working with leading shoe component manufacturers across Europe to create one of the most sustainable shoes on the planet.

It’s not been an easy journey. Many of the solutions we’ve developed to create a pair of fully biodegradable sneakers have not been seen before. These sneakers are literally at the cutting edge of sustainable footwear.

They’re not only super sustainable but super cool to look at and super comfy to wear.

The LDN is based on a new WVS sneaker silhouette with a low-cut ankle shape and laces that run low down the vamp. We’ve had many requests to do something like this, and are pleased to announce its arrival.

The Tencel uppers mold around your feet. LDN are breathable and lightweight to wear. They’re fully washable by hand or put in a short cool wash with a towel (to protect from the wash drum).

The Tencel and organic cotton mix linings are really soft, you can wear your LDN Sneakers with or without socks. The linings allow air to circulate around your feet, helping them stay cool. They are also great at wicking moisture away, keeping them dry and hygenic.

The wood fibre and natural latex insoles laid on the Apinat Bio sneaker outsoles provide cushioning, shock absorption and traction as you walk.

Materials

Upper: One-piece knitted Tencel™ uppers – soft, breathable and naturally moisture-wicking, with a low-cut ankle and contrast knit pattern stripes on each side
Lining: Grey woven Tencel™ linings – very soft against your feet, breathable and moisture-wicking to keep them fresh and dry
Insole: Wood fibre and natural latex insoles – naturally breathable and flexible, cushioning your feet while holding their shape over time
Outsole: Apinat BIO® sneaker outsole – a biodegradable bioplastic made from renewable raw materials, giving cushioning, shock absorption and traction as you walk, and breaking down at end of life instead of persisting for centuries
Laces: Laces in Tencel™ – a natural fibre made from sustainably grown eucalyptus, strong and soft to the touch

Construction & Features

Shank: No shank – a soft, flexible build that moves with your feet
Construction: Strobel construction – the upper is stitched directly to a soft textile base, with the sole bonded underneath. With no rigid board or stiffeners inside, it flexes naturally with your foot and stays light underfoot
Water Resistance: Not water-resistant – the knitted Tencel™ uppers are open-weave and breathable, so rain will pass straight through to your feet. Best kept for dry days and warm weather – the breathability that lets air in is the same reason water gets in.

Care Guide

Remove the laces and insoles, then hand wash the uppers in cool water with a mild soap, using a soft brush or cloth for any marks. Rinse and air dry away from direct heat and sunlight – never tumble dry, as heat can damage the knit. The laces can be washed the same way.

Absolutely Amazing

I adore the biodegradable sneakers! They are so comfortable and I feel so blessed to have them. I love to dance and these shoes are the best in all aspects.

fell apart

they look good, but you cant keep the white ones white as they are impossible to wash, and they start falling apart very soon. they are also heavier than normal...

Showing the world they are as good as other shoes and better.

The first few days they were a little tight and then they loosened up. Now they are super comfortable. I slide my foot in like sandals now. They look great with work outfits such as a casual blazer. They are comfortable for walking as well.

Large than expected

I usually wear a size 5 in the US, so I ordered a US 5 / EU 36. Unfortunately, the shoes turned out to be larger than expected. They’re too big for my feet, and even though I wear them with thick wool socks, they still slip off my heels when I walk. I ended up dirtying the shoes, so I’ve decided not to return them. Note to self: I’ll only order EU 36 from now on.

Not very long-lived

Very pretty and comfortable, but reached a point of not being usable after 7 months. They were only used for my daily activities in a city, not for hiking in difficult terrain or anything like that. In my opinion durability is the most important component of sustainable fashion so I'm quite disappointed.
